Who Am I?
My name is Katie. Founder of Fruitful Learning.
Becoming a teacher was never a part of my plan. Shortly after graduating high school, I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to attend the University of New Mexico with no idea of what I wanted to study. In the two years I was there, my major changed about 5-6 times! Once I began serving in children’s ministry, I moved back home and began the journey of obtaining a teaching degree.
Over the course of my teaching career, I have had the privilege of working with many different families. I get to continue that through Fruitful Learning, but this time I can give students more attention to work on strengthening their literacy and math skills.
The Mission
I believe in giving students the skills they need in order to follow their dreams and change the world. Cliche, I know! As children grow up, their interests change, and the paths they choose look different. Whether it’s a four-year university, a trade school, or starting businesses, they need the foundational literacy and math skills that begin at the elementary level.
I am honored to work with families, providing accessible sessions to build necessary skills, so kids grow to be world changers on any and every path they choose.
The Approach
Being Orton-Gillingham trained, through IMSE, all sessions are designed to be multisensory. When students use more than one sense to learn, the information is more likely to stick. For math and reading, your child will utilize multiple senses to collect information, make connections, and understand and work through problems.
Multisensory learning involves tapping into visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic learning styles. Depending on your child’s need, some multisensory activities include: sand writing, sky writing, manipulatives for counting, song and dance, drawing, and syllable division.
